My top 3 OVHcloud alternatives
By Shubhashree Halder, Content Manager
Amazon EC2
I have used Amazon EC2 for replacing OVHcloud in my development of a production API. In this context, I create an auto-scaling group using both On-Demand and Spot instances. My typical process is to specify requirements (vCPU/RAM) via Launch Templates. Then, allow AWS to automatically select which instance type to use based on your spot pricing. As an added layer of security for traffic, I also utilize Security Groups and an Application Load Balancer. To maintain application state, I utilize EBS volumes as opposed to utilizing the instance volume. Once spend has stabilized; I move to a 1-year or 3-year hourly commitment through Savings Plans as opposed to manually managing many Reserved Instances.
Microsoft Azure
For Windows-heavy stacks, Azure is the first place I look because Azure Hybrid Benefit and Azure Reserved VM Instances (1- or 3-year terms) can change the math fast. On bursty workloads, I’ve had good results using Spot Virtual Machines inside Virtual Machine Scale Sets, where you can set a maximum price and even check eviction rate signals in the portal before committing to a SKU.
Hetzner
When I want a simpler bill than a hyperscaler, I look at Hetzner Cloud plus dedicated servers. The details I keep coming back to are practical ones: Floating IPs are priced per month (e.g., €3/month for IPv4, €1/month for IPv6) and cloud locations include Ashburn (VA), Hillsboro (OR), and Singapore for cloud products. If I need a private east-west path, I can even attach dedicated servers into Hetzner Cloud Networks via vSwitch.
List of Alternatives to OVHcloud
Here are some of OVHcloud's top competitors in the Cloud Storage category: Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, Hetzner or Google Cloud (GCP).

Amazon EC2 Hosting - It's Decent
While we didn't have any problems with customer support or uptime on Amazon EC2, we did experience issues with our IP being flagged for malicious activity by various DNS providers, such as CloudFlare. We suspect our VPS IP had been used for illegal activities in the past. Despite changing our IP, the issue persisted. Apart from this, we've had no other issues with Amazon EC2. The pricing is reasonable and the uptime is reliable.

Why is Amazon EC2 a good alternative to OVHcloud?
I recommend Amazon EC2 most when the team is already hitting “capacity management” problems: unpredictable traffic, multi-AZ requirements, or the need to squeeze costs out of non-critical compute. The concrete reason is that EC2 pairs compute with a mature set of automation knobs: Auto Scaling groups that can run a mixed fleet across instance types and purchase options, plus Spot Instances for interruptible work and Savings Plans for steady-state baselines. In my experience, this makes it easier to set a policy like “always keep 60% On‑Demand, fill the rest with Spot under a price protection limit,” and let the platform continuously rebalance as it scales. If you’re an ops team that already thinks in launch templates, health checks, rolling replacements, and load balancers, EC2 tends to reward that approach with fewer manual capacity decisions than I usually make on OVHcloud.
What are the differences between Amazon EC2 and OVHcloud?
OVHcloud’s pitch often centers on pairing cost-effective dedicated/bare metal with a Public Cloud ecosystem (notably OpenStack-based components) and services like Managed Kubernetes that handle control-plane lifecycle (one-click or API-triggered updates) plus OIDC integration for access control. With Amazon EC2, I’m operating in AWS’s VPC model first: subnets, route tables, Security Groups, and load balancers become the default building blocks for almost everything. The biggest functional difference I feel day-to-day is the pricing/placement toolkit around compute: On‑Demand plus Spot (interruptible, with a 2‑minute interruption notice) plus Savings Plans/Reserved constructs, and the ability to blend purchase options inside one Auto Scaling group. That combination pushes me toward more automated, policy-driven capacity management than I usually do on OVHcloud.

Well-Integrated App Hosting & Monitoring
Azure has been a solid fit for us mainly because the services work well together. We run our app on App Service, store data in Azure SQL, and use Application Insights to catch slow queries before users notice. It took a bit of setup, but once the monitoring was in place, troubleshooting got much easier

Why is Microsoft Azure a good alternative to OVHcloud?
Azure is the alternative I reach for when the org has Microsoft gravity: Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra-driven access patterns, or a finance team that wants predictable commitments tied to a specific VM family and region. The feature set that matters in practice is cost + fleet control: Azure Reserved VM Instances (1‑ or 3‑year) can be scoped and managed as a cost object, and Azure Hybrid Benefit can materially reduce Windows licensing cost on VMs. For workloads that can take interruptions (batch, CI, horizontally scalable web tiers), Azure Spot VMs add a hard control (maximum price) plus observability cues (eviction rate and price history), and VM Scale Sets let me mix Spot and regular capacity in one fleet. If you’re an IT/platform team that wants governance-first patterns and Windows economics without awkward licensing workarounds, Azure tends to fit better than OVHcloud.
What are the differences between Microsoft Azure and OVHcloud?
OVHcloud gives me a very infrastructure-forward experience (including metal instances and a managed Kubernetes control plane that’s designed to stay compatible with common tooling), which I often treat as a clean target for Terraform + Kubernetes. Azure, in contrast, pulls me into its identity and governance patterns early: RBAC scope, policy, and subscription/resource-group layout tend to drive the architecture. On pure compute, Azure’s cost mechanics differ in named programs: Azure Reserved VM Instances use 1‑ or 3‑year terms (with monthly payment options) and can be combined with Azure Hybrid Benefit for Windows licensing economics. For interruptible capacity, Azure Spot VMs let me set a maximum price and review price history/eviction rate signals, and VM Scale Sets add features like mixing Spot with regular instances via distribution settings. It’s a more “fleet and governance” centered workflow than OVHcloud’s typical path.

Why is Hetzner a good alternative to OVHcloud?
Hetzner is the alternative I like for small SaaS teams, solo developers, and cost-sensitive startups that still want “real infrastructure” primitives (networks, load balancers, firewalls) without the cognitive overhead of hyperscaler catalog sprawl. The benefits are specific: pricing for essentials like Floating IPs is published as a simple monthly line item, and cloud locations spanning Europe plus US (Ashburn, Hillsboro) and Singapore make it feasible to place workloads closer to users without redesigning everything. I also like the option to bridge dedicated servers into Hetzner Cloud private Networks via vSwitch, because it lets me run a dedicated database or storage-heavy node next to cloud app servers with private addressing. If OVHcloud appealed to you for straightforward hosting economics, Hetzner often scratches the same itch, just with a different console, different locations, and very direct per-resource pricing.
What are the differences between Hetzner and OVHcloud?
OVHcloud and Hetzner overlap more directly than the hyperscalers do: both can be approached as “straightforward infrastructure” where I’m thinking in terms of servers, networks, and predictable hosting costs rather than dozens of managed primitives. Where Hetzner feels distinct to me is the blunt, documented pricing of small but important building blocks (for example, Floating IPs priced per month, with explicit hourly equivalents) and the way locations/network zones are described for cloud products (including US and Singapore cloud availability). Hetzner also has a practical hybrid story: I can attach dedicated servers into Hetzner Cloud private Networks via vSwitch, which is useful when I want private traffic between dedicated and cloud VMs. Full list of alternatives on the page: Google Cloud (GCP), DigitalOcean, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Scaleway, Amazon EC2, Cloudflare, AWS Activate, Cherry Servers, Hetzner, Infomaniak, CloudAlly, OUTSCALE for Entrepreneurs.
