My top 3 Preply alternatives
By Mary O'Brien, Customer Success Manager
Coursera
When I am using a structured curriculum instead of one-to-one tutoring, then Coursera is my first port-of-call. I can choose a Professional Certificate that provides me with a week-by-week lesson plan as well as hands-on project work and graded assignments so I know when I have mastered each unit. While there are some courses available for free through Coursera (e.g. Data Science Specialization), if you want access to all courses at your own pace, then Coursera Plus is the most straightforward method I have discovered to "browsing" without having to pay for each course. Pricing varies by location but I am currently seeing a 7 day free trial with a monthly fee of €49 / month as well as an option to purchase annually at a discount which is also located on the Coursera Plus web site.
Udemy
Udemy fits when I want one specific skill fast and don’t want another recurring tutoring bill. The marketplace model is a one-time purchase, and Udemy explicitly calls out “lifetime access” to that course material as long as my account stays active and Udemy retains the license. If I’m shopping during promos, I also like that coupon codes are applied on the web checkout (not inside the mobile apps).
Skillshare
Skillshare wins for creative or creator-style learning where output matters more than tests. The pricing is straightforward on the plan page: $13.99/month with an annual payment of $167.88. I tend to use it like a project studio, watch a class, publish the class “Project,” then iterate using community feedback. For teams, the separate plan is $159 per user per year, billed annually, with seat reassignment if someone leaves.
