My top 3 Sawyer alternatives
By Frédéric Laffont, Chief Technology Officer
GitHub
Github is another excellent alternative, especially for those involved in software development. It's a platform where developers can store their code, collaborate with others, and track changes made to their projects. For instance, if you're working on a team project, Github allows every member to contribute without overwriting each other's work. It also has a feature called 'version control' which lets you revert back to previous versions of your project if needed.
InDesign
InDesign is a great option for those into graphic design or publishing. It's a software used for creating layouts for both print and digital media. If you're designing a magazine, for example, InDesign provides tools to create eye-catching layouts, format text professionally, and manage linked assets like images. It also supports export in various formats including PDF and EPUB for digital publications.
Shopify
Shopify is a great option if you're looking to launch an online store or grow your business. It's easy to use and offers plenty of customizable themes, so you can easily match your brand's style. If you're selling handmade crafts, you can select a theme that beautifully showcases the detail and craftsmanship behind your products. Shopify also seamlessly integrates with multiple payment gateways, simplifying the checkout process for your customers. Overall, I genuinely believe Shopify is an excellent alternative to Sawyer, especially if you're after a user-friendly experience and flexible design options.

Issues + PR Links Keep Planning Clean
I mostly use GitHub for private repos and issue tracking, and it does a solid job of keeping product and engineering in sync. Being able to link commits and pull requests to issues sounds small, but it makes weekly planning a lot less messy. We also got a year of cloud credits worth about 10k through Joinsecret when we were setting things up, which helped us offset some infra costs early on.

Why is GitHub a good alternative to Sawyer?
As a software developer, I find Sawyer to be a great alternative to GitHub. One of the main reasons is its user-friendly interface which makes project management and version control much easier. It provides a very intuitive and visual representation of the code development process, allowing me to better track changes and understand the work flow.
Another advantage is the enhanced collaboration features. With Sawyer, you can easily assign tasks, comment on code, and share updates with your team. This fosters a more collaborative environment, which is essential for successful software development.
Lastly, Sawyer gives you more control over your repositories. You can choose who has access to your projects and what permissions they have. This added layer of security is something that I truly appreciate.
What are the differences between GitHub and Sawyer?
I have tested both Sawyer and GitHub, and I can say that they are quite different in their functions. Sawyer is a software primarily used for managing and scheduling classes, camps, and other educational events. It provides a platform for businesses to list their programs and for parents or students to easily find and book these activities.
Alternatively, GitHub is a web-based hosting service for version control using Git. It's primarily used for computer code. It offers all of the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git as well as adding its own features. It provides access control and several collaboration features such as bug tracking, feature requests, task management, continuous integration and wikis for every project.
Therefore, while both are useful tools, they serve very different purposes - one is tailored towards educational programming while the other is oriented towards software development.

Why is InDesign a good alternative to Sawyer?
I believe that the service Sawyer is a great alternative to InDesign for a number of reasons. Firstly, Sawyer is more user-friendly and less complex, making it an excellent choice for those who are new to graphic design or who don't need all the advanced features of InDesign. Secondly, it's cost-effective. Unlike Adobe InDesign, which can be quite expensive especially for small businesses or freelancers, Sawyer offers a more affordable pricing plan. Thirdly, it provides good collaboration features which makes it easier for teams to work together. Lastly, its cloud-based nature allows users to access and work on their designs from anywhere at any time. Therefore, for those seeking a simpler, cheaper, and more collaborative design tool, Sawyer is a good alternative to consider.
What are the differences between InDesign and Sawyer?
I have worked with both Sawyer and InDesign, and I can attest that they are different in many ways. First off, Sawyer is a business management software designed for children's activity providers. It allows businesses to schedule classes, manage enrollments, process payments, and communicate with parents. Its main focus is to streamline operations and improve customer experiences in the child service industry.
On the other hand, Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software used for creating layouts for print and digital publishing. It's used by graphic designers, artists, publishers, and marketing professionals to create posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, presentations, books, and ebooks. InDesign is all about designing and layout while Sawyer is about business management. They serve different objectives and are used in entirely different industries.

Simple Store Setup & Smooth Checkout
Squarespace has been a good fit for our online store because product pages are easy to set up and inventory tracking is simple enough for a lean team. The checkout experience feels smooth, and the email campaign integration is handy when launching new products. I found a modest extra discount on the plan through Joinsecret, which was a nice bonus rather than the main reason we picked it

Why is Squarespace a good alternative to Sawyer?
As a user, I find Sawyer to be an excellent alternative to Squarespace for several reasons. First, Sawyer is specifically designed for educational businesses, making it a perfect platform for tutors, workshop organizers, and even schools. Its features are tailored to manage class schedules, student enrollment, and payment processing efficiently which is not a primary focus of Squarespace.
Secondly, Sawyer offers an integrated booking system that allows customers to book classes directly from the website. This feature significantly enhances user experience and streamlines business operations. Additionally, their customer service is top-notch, providing quick and helpful responses.
Lastly, Sawyer's pricing is competitive and they also offer a free trial which makes it a cost-effective solution for small businesses. While Squarespace is a great general website builder, for education-based businesses, Sawyer is a more fitting choice.
What are the differences between Squarespace and Sawyer?
I have been exploring both Sawyer and Squarespace, and I've found some significant differences between these two platforms. Sawyer is a software specifically designed for managing educational services. This platform assists with class scheduling, registration, billing, and other administrative tasks. It's a great tool for organizations that provide classes or workshops, making it easier to manage their operations.
Conversely, Squarespace is a general website building and hosting platform. It provides tools to create visually appealing websites without needing to know coding. Squarespace is not industry-specific and can be used by anyone from bloggers to small businesses. It offers features like e-commerce, blogging, and analytics.
In summary, while both are useful tools, they serve different purposes. Sawyer is more suited for educational service management while Squarespace is ideal for creating and hosting a variety of websites.

Weebly: A Satisfactory Yet Underwhelming Website Builder
My overall experience with Weebly has been satisfactory, but slightly disappointing. Compared to other website builders like Squarespace, it seems less modern and stylish. I'm uncertain if I'll continue using Weebly or switch to another platform soon. I managed to create my website as desired, selecting a template and replacing everything with my own photos and videos. However, the website felt clunky and occasionally unresponsive. There were instances when the preview didn't accurately reflect the actual website, and it would sometimes freeze. I would have to exit and re-enter, hoping my changes were saved. Sometimes they were, sometimes they weren't. I initially chose Weebly because my wife already had a website with them.

We switched to Slack from Microsoft Teams for one department and the adoption was much faster than I expected. People understood channels and reactions right away, and workflow builder has been surprisingly useful for simple request processes. It is not perfect for long-form documentation, but for day-to-day coordination it is solid

Practical Day-to-Day Order and Discount Management
For a small brand with a lean team, Shopify has been practical. The order management view is clear, returns are manageable with the right app, and the discount code system is flexible enough for campaigns. I would like a few more advanced features included natively, but overall it is easy to run day to day
