Understanding AWS Pricing: A Personal Journey with Amazon S3
I recently embarked on an exciting journey with AWS, opening a free tier account to explore its vast potential for hosting my clients' websites. I was thrilled to create 3 EC2 instances for testing, which was a great learning experience. A few months later, I was surprised to see a charge of nearly $15 on my account. This unexpected event actually turned out to be a valuable lesson in understanding the pricing structure of AWS. Although I initially found the documentation a bit challenging, it pushed me to dive deeper and learn more about the platform. This experience has ultimately enhanced my knowledge and understanding of AWS.

What I appreciate most is how easy it is to work with nested JSON-like data in MongoDB. For event tracking and user activity logs, it feels much more natural than forcing everything into a relational schema, and the aggregation pipeline has been more useful than I expected for reporting

Amazon EC2 Hosting - It's Decent
While we didn't have any problems with customer support or uptime on Amazon EC2, we did experience issues with our IP being flagged for malicious activity by various DNS providers, such as CloudFlare. We suspect our VPS IP had been used for illegal activities in the past. Despite changing our IP, the issue persisted. Apart from this, we've had no other issues with Amazon EC2. The pricing is reasonable and the uptime is reliable.

Solid In-Memory Database, Yet Customer Support Falls Short
Overall, I appreciate SingleStore's products, but I find some key features lacking. I'm particularly impressed by its dual function as an In-memory DB and Relational DB, a feature not common in most In-Memory products. The query response times are also praiseworthy. However, I'm dissatisfied with the customer support, as it's difficult to get on-call representative support even for PROD-Sev1 issues. I also noticed the absence of two-way DB replication for DataCenters. I chose SingleStore mainly for its In-memory Relational DB feature, which was also the reason I switched to it. In response to my concerns, the vendor asked me to contact community@memsql.com to discuss my support experience and escalate my concerns for improved future service. I received this response in October 2019.
