01 Is Zoom Meetings any Good? My expert Review

Zoom Meetings is a dependable and functional platform, greatly valued for its clean interface and straightforwardness. It supports webinars and virtual meetings seamlessly and allows participants unfamiliar with technology to join with little trouble. Interactive features such as breakout rooms, and polling, also benefit participant engagement, meeting productivity, and interaction by participants with the content or speaker.

On the negative side, it has some minor drawbacks, after a user joins, sometimes there is a sound from the background, or they just forget to mute it (which may affect the flow of the meeting for a few seconds). Additionally, video conversation clarity can occasionally be impacted during a presentation when the presentation is very detailed, deep, or demonstration of some detail of a product/service is presented.

Even under the above minor issues, Zoom always has a stable and clear communications platform. Utilization of Zoom would be a valuable resource for professional collaboration and personal interaction because Zoom persists no matter the difficult internet connectivity conditions; this is important, as there will be variation with each user's connection speeds, and audio will always be clear.

02 Pros and cons from reviewers

Pros from reviewers

  • Innovative and useful features
Zoom Meetings offers a range of features that enhance the meeting experience, such as chats, polls, breakout rooms, and third-party integrations

  • Screen sharing and multi-tasking
The screen sharing feature allows users to see and control others' screens if necessary, and the software allows users to see other participants even when using another program, enabling multi-tasking

  • High-quality meeting experience
Despite slow internet speeds, Zoom Meetings provides an impressive meeting experience, with good video and audio quality

  • Simplicity and usability
The software is easy to navigate and use, and attendees do not need to sign up or log in to join a meeting, making it accessible to users of all levels of tech-savviness

  • Global communication features
Zoom Meetings is suitable for international business, with features that facilitate global communication.

Cons from reviewers

  • Unresolved billing issues
Some users have reported unresolved billing issues with Zoom Meetings, including overcharges and difficulties in cancelling subscriptions. This can lead to dissatisfaction and a lack of trust in the company's customer service.

  • Lack of microphone control
While users can choose whether to have their camera on or off when entering a meeting, the same option is not available for the microphone. This can lead to unwanted noise and interruptions at the start of a meeting

  • Frequent sign-outs due to network problems
Despite its smooth features, Zoom Meetings can frequently sign users out due to network problems. This can disrupt the flow of a meeting and cause frustration

  • Poor background noise management
Despite its many features, Zoom Meetings struggles with managing background noise. When a participant unmutes to speak, any high background noise can cause disruptions and distractions, affecting the overall meeting experience

  • Lower video quality
Compared to other software, the video quality in Zoom Meetings is reported to be lower. This can impact the clarity of communication and the effectiveness of screen sharing

04 How Zoom Meetings compare to similar software?

Dialpad and Zoom are powerful tools that enhance business communication through video conferencing and other collaborative features, but they serve distinctly different needs based on their core functionalities and integrated features.

Zoom is primarily recognized as a leader in video conferencing solutions, offering high-quality video and audio calls, which has made it a go-to choice for virtual meetings, webinars, and large digital events. It allows users to host or join meetings with ease, providing robust features like screen sharing, virtual backgrounds, and real-time messaging during calls. Zoom's platform is designed to support a large number of participants, making it suitable for both small team meetings and large-scale broadcasts.

In contrast, Dialpad offers a broader communication solution, integrating VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) with video conferencing. This makes Dialpad not just a tool for video calls but also a comprehensive business phone system. It includes...

Zoom and Webex are very similar. They’re at the same price point, around $14-15 for their cheapest subscription, and they offer very similar deals. Even the free plans have the same limits, 40 minutes for a meeting with maximum 100 attendees.

Both platforms also have nearly identical text messaging features, screen sharing options, and customization settings for meetings.

So for most businesses, you can’t really go wrong with either option. Webex and Zoom are reliable video conferencing apps that do their job well.

However, in our testing and research we found that Zoom is slightly better. For starters, it has over 1,000 more integrations than Webex, which makes it much easier to add Zoom to an existing toolset, or get more out of it with third-party apps.

Moreover, live streaming is available on more platforms on Zoom, and you can do it on the cheapest plan. In Webex, you can only do it with their most expensive plan. If streaming to Facebook or YouTube is important...

Both Zoom and Google Meet are strong video conferencing apps, and we’re happy to recommend them. The main difference is in target audience: Google Meet is better for smaller organizations, and impromptu meetings. Zoom is better for professional conferencing needs, advanced features, and added security.

Where does this difference come from? Mainly, it’s the feature set. Google Meet is lighter in features, sacrificing complexity in favor of an easy set-up. Zoom, on the other hand, has much more settings for organizing a meeting or participating in calls. It also has more controls for video hosts, giving users a chance to customize their experience to a large organization’s needs.

For example, screensharing is more advanced in Zoom. On the paid plans, you can set-up second cameras for professional presentations, easily connect apps to help with a complex webinar, and get more control over what’s displayed.

Implicitly, this also makes Google Meet much easier to use. You’re usually ready...

    Easy Client Join + Breakouts

What I appreciate most is how easy it is for outside clients to join without needing much hand-holding. Screen sharing is smooth, remote control has been helpful for support calls, and breakout rooms make workshops feel a lot less chaotic than a single big meeting room.

    Cloud Recording & Auto Transcripts

I use Zoom mostly for team check-ins and recorded training sessions, and the cloud recording with automatic transcripts saves me a lot of follow-up work. The transcript still needs a quick cleanup now and then, but it is good enough that I can pull action items without rewatching the full call.

    Reliable Calls on Weak Wi‑Fi

Zoom Meetings has been the most reliable option for our client calls, especially when people join from weak hotel Wi-Fi. The audio tends to stay clear even when video drops a bit, and the waiting room plus passcode settings make it easy to keep meetings private without extra hassle.

Engagement Tools (Reactions, Polls) + Discounted Upgrade

I didn’t expect to care about Zoom’s in-meeting reactions and polls, but they actually help keep large calls moving, and with the $20 off via Joinsecret I felt better about trying a higher tier to access the admin controls and reporting for attendance

Strong Meeting Security & Lock Controls

The waiting room plus meeting passcodes and “only authenticated users” setting help a lot when running public trainings, and once you lock the meeting it’s pretty stress-free from a moderation standpoint

    Searchable Recordings with Auto-Transcripts

Meeting recordings are genuinely useful with the automatic transcript, since I can search for a keyword later and jump to that moment, but I wish the transcript editing UI were a bit less buried

Reliable Audio on Weak Wi‑Fi + Dial-In Backup

Audio has been reliably clean on spotty Wi‑Fi, and the option to switch to phone dial-in mid-call has saved a couple of meetings that would have otherwise fallen apart
