01 Is Stripe any Good? My expert Review

I consider myself a payments expert, I have used stripe for many e-commerce clients, in most cases, it has been reliable and simple to use, especially for small businesses and startups. It was pretty simple to set up Stripe for an e-commerce client, and we were quickly able to launch their online store after setting it up.

Stripe is easy to use for managing recurring subscriptions, I like their dashboard and since there are no monthly costs, it is nice to have historical information about revenue and customer purchase behavior. My issues with Stripe have been fairly small, like the dispute process was limited to uploading only 1 document. Most of my smaller clients are often confused with Stripe's fees as money comes out of a variety of places.

I have convinced my clients to use stripe because it is a good payment solution, works in many different scenarios and is fairly easy to set up and use (like online courses or if they need automated invoices). Overall, I think Stripe is an amazing tool that makes it much easier for any business, large or small, to collect payment.

02 Pros and cons from reviewers

Pros from reviewers

  • Cost-effectiveness
Stripe does not charge user fees, only transaction processing fees, making it a cost-effective solution for businesses trying to keep overhead low

  • Easy integration
Stripe is valued for its straightforward use and seamless integration with point of sale systems, making it an excellent choice for both startups and established businesses

  • Comprehensive dashboard
The Stripe dashboard offers a wealth of data, providing valuable insights for businesses

  • Versatility
Stripe is capable of managing one-time payments, automatic recurring subscriptions, standalone purchases, and business invoices, making it an all-in-one solution for businesses.

  • User-friendly
Stripe is easy to use and offers a client portal, making it simple to onboard new clients and transition existing ones

Cons from reviewers

  • Inadequate customization options
For sole proprietors or small businesses, the inability to scale down some of Stripe's features can make the platform unnecessarily complex. This lack of customization can lead to a cluttered and confusing user interface

  • Limited dispute resolution support
When dealing with chargebacks, Stripe only allows for a single document to be uploaded for dispute resolution. This can be limiting when multiple pieces of evidence are required to resolve a dispute

  • Poor customer service
Numerous users have reported issues with Stripe's customer service, including lack of follow-up, inability to resolve issues in a timely manner, and difficulty in reaching a representative. This can lead to prolonged issues and frustration.

  • Lack of payment failure alerts
Despite its overall user-friendliness, Stripe does not notify users when a payment fails. This can lead to missed payments and potential financial discrepancies

  • Confusing fee structure
Some users find Stripe's fee structure to be unclear and difficult to understand. This lack of transparency can lead to unexpected costs and financial planning difficulties

05 Who is Stripe best for according to our reviewers?

  • Ecommerce Businesses
Ecommerce businesses can use Stripe to accept payments through their websites. Despite some limitations, such as the inability to add custom notes to customers and the requirement for detailed information to process a credit card, it's chosen over other platforms like Shopify for its all-in-one ecommerce and point of sale solution

  • Small Businesses
Small businesses can utilize Stripe for gathering debit and credit card payments. It's user-friendly and clients find it easy to use for making payments. However, some users find the fee structure confusing

  • Non-Profit Organizations
Non-profit organizations can use Stripe to process annual dues and other payments. The software's API can be integrated with HTML and PHP to record payments in an organization's database. However, some users have reported issues with account verification and fund deposits.

  • Startups and Established Businesses
Stripe is excellent for both startups and established businesses due to its straightforward use and integration with point of sale systems. It can manage one-time payments and automatic recurring subscriptions, making it a cost-effective choice for businesses of all sizes

  • Sole Proprietors
Sole proprietors can benefit from Stripe's client portal, which makes it easy to onboard new clients and transition existing ones. The software doesn't charge user fees, only transaction processing fees, and offers a dashboard with a wealth of data

Self-Serve Customer Portal + Extra Fee Waiver

The customer portal is one of those features that quietly reduces workload because users can update cards, grab invoices, and change plans on their own, and the Joinsecret benefit on the first $20k processed was a practical extra rather than the reason we chose it

    Great deal

Overall happy with this product. Very happy with the deal! The technical payment issues comes from Thrivecart and not Stripe I believe, but it's hard when there are multiple softwares involved. The support is great.
