01 Is Zapier any Good? My expert Review

I have used Zapier for the last few years because it is an easy way to get automated solutions to my team members’ problems without having them wait for an engineer. The idea behind Zapier is that you create what are called "zaps" which take an action from one application when a certain event occurs in another application. These zaps help eliminate the time-consuming and repetitive tasks that we do daily such as manually copy and paste form submissions into a CRM, or ping someone in Slack when something happens with a deal.

In day-to-day use, I’m consistently impressed by the ecosystem scale (Zapier markets 8,000+ app connections) and the speed of setup thanks to templates, a clean no-code editor, and strong mid-workflow tools like multi-step Zaps, Filters, and Paths. Zapier Copilot is also genuinely helpful for drafting and troubleshooting workflows in plain language, especially when you’re iterating quickly with non-technical teammates.

Where Zapier can disappoint is in the “last 10%” of complexity. Reviewers often mention limitations when workflows need multiple triggers or highly conditional logic, plus a learning curve once you move past basic two-step automations. I also agree with the common complaint that costs can climb as you scale task volume or roll automations out across departments, automation ROI is real, but you need to watch quota-driven pricing.

Pricing-wise, Zapier has a Free tier (100 tasks/month and two-step Zaps) and a paid plan starting at $19.99/month billed annually; JoinSecret also highlights a deal with a 14-day free period and 33% off annual plans, and lists a $29/month starting price for the Pro tier. For teams evaluating value, I recommend mapping your top 3–5 processes, estimating monthly task volume, then picking a tier with headroom to avoid surprise overages.

My conclusion is that Zapier still remains the best "default choice" for most small to medium sized businesses (SMBs), and teams that are responsible for launching new products to the market, due to its large compatibility footprint and ability to deliver quick wins. However, if you are going to need to branch out deeply, host the application internally, or are going to need to add extremely customized logic to your workflow, I would also consider reviewing Make, n8n, or a more enterprise level automation platform. However, for most organizations, the combination of breadth, usability, and the newest agent/AI features offered by Zapier make it difficult to beat.
